Staff 2006 – Pinesides and Campfires

It took seven years to get back to what is currently the “last” recording. We decided to go back to the “two sides” approach with a double CD. Throughout the summer (and with a few Pinesides songs recorded after camp) we recorded songs in the staff lounge, The Pines, and the kitchen office.

Director’s Message

Music is a big part of the Silver Lake experience. Songs are sung so we can laugh, reflect, celebrate, pray, fill time, learn, challenge, and teach. Most of the songs we sing seem to be eternal, no one remembers a time when they weren’t sung. But every year there are new songs, rediscovered songs, and songs that are lost. Campfires tend to be full of eternal songs while Pinesides (and Coffee Houses) are full of the new. These songs were recorded throughout the summer of 2006 by the staff in meetings and nights off in an attempt to capture the summer forever.

It is a unique and humbling experience to work with the staff of Silver Lake. They are an amazing group of talented, responsible, and committed people. They commit themselves each year to the campers, the camp, and each other by living their faith. They challenge each person at camp to be better. Better to themselves, better to each other, and better to God’s creation. I hope you listen to these imperfect and honest songs, and hear that commitment. That you are grateful for their dedication in slowly changing our world, camper by camper. That you hear the things that go hand-in-hand: fun and reflection, faith and expression, staff and campers, God and us, music and camp, pinesides and campfires.
